The Jahtreats Process

The structure of this newsletter is built around how I have prepared meals for my family for the past 20 years, and recaps what I'm making every week. I'll also highlight the collection tools I have curated to make this process as enjoyable as possible. Along the way I'll throw in a few bonus recipes that catch my fancy. Lets get started:

I use an app

First, and very much foremost: I use the Paprika app (available for iOS, Android, mac OS and Windows), and all of the recipes I post are available as a download in Paprika App format. I HIGHLY recommend using this app, and learning how to use all of its 5 or so key features. This will elevate your meal planning game to the next level.

I shop for the entire week on Sunday

My cooking and shopping schedule is basically the same every week. On Saturday evening or Sunday morning I plan for 5 meals- Sunday through Thursday. If I want to make something a little more complicated, I plan it for Sunday, and the food that keeps the best I plan for Thursday. I do 5 days because I very much appreciate fresh ingredients, and after 5 days things get stale. Using the Paprika app, I plan my menu and do all my shopping for the week on Sunday morning. I try to plan for enough food so we have leftovers every day for lunch. We generally eat out on Friday night, and I plan something spontaneous on Saturday.

Vegetables and starches not included

Unless the dinner already inherently includes a starch (like a pasta dish), or is loaded with vegetables (like a big salad) I also prepare a vegetable and some kind of grain or starch with most meals. These are not included in the Jahtreats meal plan. This is because many dishes already have a grain or starch as part of the ingredients, and I like to buy the 5 weekly vegetable dishes on the fly in the grocery store when I shop for the week. That way I can see whats fresh or looks good.

I send you a weeks' worth of recipes

Every Friday I will be sending out the five recipes I made the previous week, which will allow me to make last minute notes or subs for dishes that sucked for whatever reason before I send them onto you.
